A good street preacher and irritates and draws negative image towards Christianity more than any church could ever hope to. The reason "sinners" don't go to church is because they have no desire to be told they're going to hell for being human, and when suddenly verbally assaulted in the street by some irate stranger telling them they're terrible people for not believing such and such, or for being gay, or believing in a different deity, or not believing at all, or fighting for a woman's right to choose, or having pre-marital sex, and so on, it doesn't inspire people to convert, nay, it inspires them to strike back at the assholes telling them to be something other than themselves.

That preacher never followed any sensible course of reason, and when the college student tried to point out his fallacies he immediately changed the subject. The fact is that neither party had empirical evidence regarding the creation of the world apart from the fact we're here, we weren't then, so we can't really know. The bible was written by man, and since there's no empirical evidence of God offering divine inspiration for it, there's no basis of fact. It's an article of faith, not reason, nor truth, believing in something doesn't make it true, except perhaps when it comes to wikipedia.

The reason Sinners don't go to church is the same reason a Theif does not go to the police station.  The church needs to get out from behind the buildings that hold it.
